Civil servants lend a helping hand
The employees from department of Social development and welfare volunteered at Soshanguve disability centre.
People around the country went out to make a difference to other’s lives, and it was not different for Soshaguve disabled centre(Shoshad)at block H.Employees and the locals from Social Development came in their numbers to help with cleaning at the centre.
The centre was opened in 2003 and acquired 1,4 hectares worth R1,5 million donated by the department of the Public works and Transport. It was initiated by a disabled activist and parliamentarian Maria Rantho, but her vision was implemented by Sello Hopane who is wheel chair bound.
Social development and Welfare employees divided themselves into two groups.
The first group cleaned the windows while the other removed the weeds around the yard and the garden. Ms Elsie Motaung, a social worker from the department of Social development and Welfare was happy with their contribution to the centre. “It was successful. Everyone who was here had commitment, We cleaned the place,on this day people can do a lot of things to help others. They have to be willing to help” she said.
People at the centre were happy with what the department has done. Mr Malose Mabusela who spoke on behalf of the management showed happiness about the work done by the volunteers. “As this day is Mandela day, what they did is important, We Soshad management want them to team up with us to work together always, not only on this day” Mabusela said. The volunteers were happy with their work at the centre and promised to lend a helping hand when it is needed.
